SotD -- Joost

by Administrator 6. April 2007 02:38

Joost™After many months of waiting I finally received my Joost invite.  I've heard some bitching and moaning about how there is only a small amount of content available and how it's not as fast as some people might like or that the video quality isn't HD so I might have had pretty low expectations going into it.  That aside, I'm pretty impressed.  Most of the complaints are valid if a little over critical, but for a beta service with a reasonably untested approach and new bend on some old technology it is very promising.

So call me an optimist but I'd bet on this being big.  Real big.  I can see a mix of something like Joost and Zudeo Vuze replacing standard TV and movie rentals in the not so distant future.  Add in an AppleTV / SlingCatcher type device and make the whole thing easy enough for grandma to setup and you can kiss TV as you know it goodbye!

CC - Good for the body, mind and soul

by Administrator 4. April 2007 17:56

PodioBooks, RymeTorrents, PromQueen... I've pretty much called it quits on commercial audio CD's.  And don't think it's because I just pirate it, no siree I've gone CC all the way, at least when it comes to audio.  I still average about a book a month but most of my "reading" is done on-line.

TV is a different story.  While I subscribe to maybe 10-20 shows on-line I have to admit that I'm hooked on another dozen weekly TV shows.  I think my time is split pretty evenly between the two right now although I never just watch the Internet shows without working at the same time.

None of this make a damn bit of difference to anyone and the only reason I bring it up is because three years ago 100% of my mediatainment came from the big three CD, TV & books and now now it's closer to 25%.

Yeah, sure, I'm an earlier adopter but others will eventually follow.
