My lovely wife bought me a Kindle for my birthday.  I've only had it for a day but so far I'm loving it.  It's easy to use, easy to read and easy to get content.  I think it's going to become a new fundamental part of my world.

Also of note is the open source meeting service Dimdim.  It's similar to Webex but is free and doesn't require participants to download / install any software (to host a meeting you must install a small add on).  It's not quite as feature rich as Webex but does include audio / video support, chat, a whiteboard and desktop sharing.  All in all a great tool too keep in your toolbox.

Another interesting development this week is Google's foray into the virtual worlds space.  Lively is no second life yet, load times are poor and features are weak but it's backed by the Google so it's worth keeping an eye on.

I agree that the Kindle is expensive and I probably wouldn't have bought it for myself until the price drops some more but I'm not giving it back now ;-} I'm very happy with it and I've already spent more time reading in the past few days than I have in the past year!

As for the iPhone, not a fan. I know it sounds weird especially since I work for a company focused on mobile development, but I don't really like the fancy phones. I've had a chance to see the old iPhone and I know what the appeal is but it's not my speed. I'll take a basic model cell phone over a new fangled iPhone any day.

To Ed:
So, is the Kindle very readable? I've been hesitant, as reading from a lcd screen (i.e. Acrobat docs, etc.) is for some reason annoying and "difficult"...

To Sai:
I almost got an Instinct (poor man's iPhone), but realized why I didn't really want one. They are very, very cool, but will only get the use they deserve if you're big into the (mobile) multimedia. If you have an iPod, especially a "video" one, go for a phone with a solid text-messaging keyboard and mp3's-for-ringtones...

MHO, anyways...
